So you either think the title of this post is really inappropriate or you think I’m an avid Madonna fan but both are incorrect! I took a week trip to Chicago for fourth of July to visit my family (who was also visiting from California) and I was lucky enough to snag a room at the new Virgin Hotels property downtown. It’s a great new space that has everything you need when visiting a big metropolis such as Chicago. They have a beautiful rooftop bar that attracts a fun youthful crowd, a diner for early risers and a coffee shop for quick wifi and a quick cup of jo. You can see above in my photo diary a few photo’s of my Jr Suit, which boast’s a big comfortable bed, work space and vintage mini fridge. I mean, what more could you want? It was honestly such a nice space to come home to after exploring and walking miles on end in the windy city. Big thanks to VHC again!
Now, this time around I focused more on hanging with my family and just having a good time so unfortunately I won’t be providing a city guide but I do have a few quick recommendations! Let’s start with the most frequently asked question, “how did you get pictures by the bean and the skydeck with no one else around???” well it’s easy actually, wake up SUPER early! That picture in front of cloud gate (the bean) was at 6am. There was joggers and a couple photographers but no tourists, or even pigeons. As for Skydeck, that one’s a little more tough. Typically it opens at 9am but for whatever reason (maybe for the holiday weekend) they were opening up at 8am. So make sure to call ahead and ask if they have special hours the weekend you go. Since it was 8am we got there at 7:30am and were SECOND in line, bought our tickets and literally ran from the elevator to achieve the shot you see above (photo 2) trust me it’s well worth it and plus gets your lazy butt out of bed. other than that we did all the other normal stuff downtown has to offer like a BB game at wrigley stadium, sunset at the John Hancock tower, shopping on the mile and more. Our favorite meal hands-down was BRIDGE HOUSE TAVERN. This haven specializes in shared plates but also has large entrees for the hungry american. We went with the pretzel bites, cheese board and avocado rolls. trust me on this one, you won’t regret it.
alright, that’s enough rambling. Nick and I are off to go shoot some content in the city before I fly to one of my favorite, romantic places….any guesses? make sure to follow along on social : @IAMGALLA
